Everyone is asking why I stopped building Ardyss, a nutrition MLM business when I’m a nutritionist and my clients, my friends, and my family received health and weight loss benefits from the nutritional supplements and the Body Magic body shaper? You are about to find out exactly why I chose not to build an Ardyss business, although I find their products beneficial.
Picture being excited about your goals, and the lifestyle you’ve chosen to create for yourself. Ardyss is the company you’ve joined and it’s one of the vehicles to give get you there. You see the potential income you’ll make.Then you see the truth and reality hits you.
You call Ardyss customer service to ask a few questions about an order, then you’re placed on hold for 30 minutes. You won’t here silence though, you’ll be entertained by automated messages of the many testimonials of distributors losing weight, making money, and changing zip codes. Thank God you have a speaker phone to use your time wisely while being on hold for 30 minutes. You’re giving yourself an inner motivational speech… be patient, this is part of the process, persevere and don’t give up!
Then reality hits you. This is similar to being in traffic for 30 minutes to get to a J.O.B. You think to yourself, how am I going to recruit a top leader in the MLM industry into my business when I know one of the first things any top leader will do is call the company and check them out. Being on hold for 30 minutes is a cause of concern for most, and a turn off for top industry leaders. And there’s more.
The dreadful 40% rule makes long holds on the phone look like pie in the sky. Since my strategy was to recruit people of influence and leaders, I was doomed by the 40% ruled from the start. This is the definition from the Ardyss comp plan, 40% Rule: For the purpose of Qualification to earn a new rank and Maintenance Qualification to be Paid As that rank, no more than 40% of the GQP created can be credited from any single leg in a downline organization. This means you’ll most likely violate this rule when you recruit a top leader with huge lists, huge influence, and more experience than you. Imagine the feeling you would get knowing your commission was cut by five, ten, or $50,000 because of this rule.
The 40% rule tainted the relationship between sponsor and downline recruit in a way I’ve never seen before in MLM. At the end of the month downline members would ask their sponsors for help and say, “I’m a few hundred points away from my next rank, can you place one person on my line?” Most companies allow placement so sponsors can help their recruits get to the next level in rank, bonuses, and commissions. Because of the law of unintended consequences, the 40% rule caused sponsors not to help their downline. Some sponsors would lie and say, I don’t have anyone I can place, or I don’t have enough points to place, or some would tell the truth and say you know you’re violating my 40% rule so I’m not placing anyone on your team. It’s gotten so ridiculous where a sponsor asked a recruit to stop recruiting so they could catch up and get off 40% rule violation. Who in the world would ask a downline member to stop producing? One sponsor actually asked her downline to give her, her recruits. This is not the relationship of sponsor and recruit in the MLM industry. The sponsor plays the role of a leader and inspires and trains their downline to recruit, recruit, recruit, and recruit some more.
